Fear as invaders prevented from marking plots

- Sisonke Mlamla

THE SITUATION in Dunoon, close to Milnerton, is calm after a group of people trying to mark out plots for themselves on private land near the N7 highway were prevented from doing so, councillor Lubabalo Makeleni said.

“This is beyond my power. The people burnt my office because of the wrong information they got from other people,” he said.

“Patricia De Lille and Loyiso Nkohla have misled our people by coming to this ward and gathered individuals to feed them with information such as they must go to any piece of land and build shacks for themselves.”

“There is land put aside for housing, but this must be done in an orderly fashion and through negotiation,” he said.

Part of the Dunoon Community Hall was burnt and badly damaged.

SANCO leader Bulelwa Mayende, who is one of the ward committee members, said she was shocked by the actions of the residents while they were attending a meeting in the community hall.

“I feel unsafe and unprotected in this ward, because of the way people showed anger towards the ward committee. This is disturbing,” Mayende said.

Law enforcement officers along with the Housing Department officials removed about 15 unoccupied structures built on the land.
