Telkom dragging its feet again

- Vikash Singh

I SEEK your advice on a matter that has affected someone known to me. Sipho G Goba is employed as a security guard at my workplace and not being au fait with e-mail, he has asked me to raise his concerns. He had noted a debit order go off his bank account to the sum of R2 600, in favour of Telkom SA, in February this year. He was perturbed and reported to the nearest Telkom shop.

He was informed that he had taken out a data contract with a laptop device, which he vehemently denies.

The delivery address quoted is not in close proximity to Goba and Telkom was quick to ascertain that they had fallen victim to a fraudster.

Telkom stated that “in good faith”, they would cancel it, pending Goba supplying an affidavit stating that he had not signed up for the contract, and he complied immediately.

Goba in the process of building his long-awaited home approached his bank for a loan to help speed the process and was informed that he had not been granted the loan because he had been listed on the credit bureau, by Telkom, for not honouring “his” contract.

Livid, Goba made contact with Telkom, who apologised and promised to clear his name within seven days.

By April 28, with no feedback received Goba queried again, only to be told to wait a further two hours, for guaranteed resolution.

This was is in April and now in midJune, Goba still remains disadvantaged.

He has prided himself on frugality to keep his credit score in check, as his home was his priority but, due to no fault of his own, his hopes of finally having a home of his own, are being shattered by a big parastatal, which is giving him the run-around.

Georgie: Telkom management have been alerted about this issue and will be attending to it.
