"The budget remains, as in all households a balancing act between what is desperately needed, what one cannot do without and those things that we know will improve our future. In the past fiscal year, 2017/2018 the drought coupled with its outcomes, such as an extended fire season requiring longer man hours, more equipment and even grave losses of life; together with external factors beyond our control such as the international dilemmas of the increasing cost of living and crime and decreases in job availability, etc. has resulted in many of our citizens barely managing to survive, let alone thrive. Despite all these factors, it is with pride that we can say that the CWDM have created many permanent jobs and numerous temporary opportunities. This has been achieved through increased tourism, the upskilling of several groups of people with new skills such as call centre training, and first aid, thus imporving their chance of employment. The needs of 5700 youth were addressed via holiday programmes, sports and education excursions and youth month programmes to mention but a few projects. But it is not only the past, however exciting, but in the future that we look forward to in hope. The budget outline on this page will show that the CWDM will invest almost R4C5 million into our communities this 2018/2019 financial year: these projects will aim to increase the quality of life for the poorest of the poor. make our towns more accessible and increase skills through training and upliftment. The CWDM will continue to grow relationships with local, national and international community organisations, businesses and governments to increase mutual understanding and move toward our vision of a unified Cape Winelands of excellence for sustainable development. Which in a nutshell means, that at the CWDM we are doing everything we can to ensure that all our citizens not only survive, but are able to thrive. "
