Signed up for unwanted service

I RECEIVED a phone call from Loan Zone SA in January 2018 to offer me a loan. As I normally receive phone calls of this nature from places like RCS, I didn’t think it was out of the ordinary.

The representa­tive asked me all the basic questions required for a loan approval, as they normally do.

After he had the informatio­n, he started talking about a value-added service for R399 per month. I told him that I’m not interested in any services that will cost me money.

The representa­tive then gave me a phone number to phone if I wish to cancel. I again told him I do not want any value-added service and I do not wish to continue with the loan applicatio­n anymore.

I ended the call and then phoned the number he gave me just to make sure they didn’t subscribe me to anything. However, the number he gave me was for FNB student loans, which has no knowledge of any such services. At the end of the month they took a debit order that I returned back, the next month the same thing, and so on.

After a while they started harassing me and threatenin­g me with legal proceeding­s. They’re unable to provide me with any signed documentat­ion of the agreement (as I didn’t agree to anything).

They sent me a letter stating that it was an online applicatio­n and not a telephonic applicatio­n. However, the IP they provide belongs to a company in Brits and is not my external IP (which doesn’t change at all), which leads me to believe that this is fraudulent­ly created to make it appear as if I agreed to their terms.

I have a recording of the phone call, and it should still be on my cellphone. I can also supply the fake documents they sent through to me if required.
