State set to wrap up wife murder case
THE State is finalising its investigation into the murder of Constantia woman Gill Packham, of which her husband, Rob Packham, stands accused.
Gill’s body was found in the boot of her burning BMW vehicle near the Diep River railway station after she was reported missing.
On February 22 she left home for work at Springfield Convent School in Wynberg and never arrived.
Packham faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
Yesterday, State prosecutor Nicky Konisi told the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court the State was preparing an indictment for the Western Cape High Court. Konisi was standing in for advocate Susan Galloway.
Galloway headed the prosecution team in the triple axe murderer Henri van Breda’s case, which saw the convicted criminal sentenced to three life terms for killing his parents and brother.
Packham’s lawyer, Ben Mathewson, told the court he intended to make a formal application to amend the 57-year-old’s bail conditions.
The accused was released on R50000 bail. He has been restricted to house arrest, but is allowed to continue with his work for cooldrink company Twizza as a general manager at a Cape-based plant where he earns about R80 000 a month.
However, Packham is not allowed to make contact with his sister. The case was postponed to August 30.
