Flat fire claims second victim
ONE OF two women injured in the fire at Amdenhof flats in Bellville has died, while the other one is in a stable condition.
A fire broke out at the building on the corner of Barnard and Voortrekker roads around noon on Monday.
Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on the scene at 12.07pm where they were joined by fire services as well as police. Western Cape EMS spokesperson Robert Daniels had previously confirmed that two women, as well as a man, had been rushed to Tygerberg Hospital in critical conditions with severe burn wounds, as well as smoke inhalation and polytrauma, as one of the women jumped from the third floor of the building in order to escape.
The body of an 8-year old boy was also recovered from the scene.

passed away last night due to the extent of her injuries after numerous medical interventions proved unsuccessful,” said a spokesperson from Tygerberg Hospital.
“The other female patient is in a stable condition and her baby was discharged after medical staff were happy with the medical observations carried out.”
SAPS spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana has confirmed that circumstances surrounding the incident were under investigation.
