TWO 9-year-old boys died after they lost control of a quad bike and it overturned in Hanover Park on Saturday.

It is believed their bike crashed into a wall of a house in Lynburg Road.

Qiyaam Stemmet and Abdu Dayaan Roode, were allegedly not wearing any protective gear.

Roode died on impact while Stemmet sustained serious head injuries. He was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital where he later died.

A resident, Craven Engel, said he arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. “The two boys, who live not far away from each other, were not wearing any kind of safety gear at the time of the accident.

“We called the paramedics and the fire brigade to the scene, but they had to wait for the police to escort them before they could drive out to the scene,” said Engel.

According to Engel it has not yet been confirmed who the owner of the bike is.

Another resident, Nasief Bassie, who also arrived on the scene shortly after the accident, said the boys suffered head injuries.

“Qiyaam and Abdu were very nice boys, loving and were very close friends. Almost everyone loved them in our area,” said Bassie.

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide. Officials have urged anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the investigating detective, Sergeant Ricardo Coetzee, on 021 690 1517 or 071 914 9663.
