best XI team of the WEEK

-

THE past week was pretty low on great performances, with even the teams who won their matches essentially scraping through. But that does not mean there were no standouts, players who differentiated themselves from the rest with performances worthy of a place in our team of the week. Bloemfontein Celtic’s great start to the season has continued unabated and Phunya Sele Sele remain the only team yet to concede a goal and boast three wins. It is a remarkable feat for a side which has been beset by off the field problems and coached by a man – Steve Komphela – who was hounded out by the fans at Kaizer Chiefs.

Of course the season is still in its infancy and to start singing his and the club’s praises could be premature in this marathon which is the championship race.

But why not let them enjoy their time in the sun while it still shines for them?

Their players dominate our squad this week following their solid performances in their 1-0 defeat of Orlando Pirates on Sunday. Alfred Ndengane was solid in defence and duly won the Man of the Match award while Bongani Sam had a good run on the left and capped it with a brilliant goal.

Lantshene Phalane worked his socks off in the heart of midfield and Tebogo Potsane continued to impress with his attacking prowess on the wing, although it was his willingness to fight for possession which caught the eye.

Polokwane captain Jabu Maluleke continues to defy age with some special performances and he was key in their winning the Limpopo capital derby over Baroka FC. SuperSport United’s Evans Rusike scored the goal which ended Bidvest Wits’ great run, while Clayton Daniels ensured the Clever Boys did not get a sniff of goal.
