Councillor’s claims rubbish

-

PLEASE editor, I beg you to stop councillor Xanthea Limberg from spreading untruths in your newspaper as reflected in “Over-recovery is a myth” last Friday. Her repeated claims that over-recovery of more than R1 billion is false, is utter rubbish.

Limberg in “Setting the record straight”, stated: “This amount (R1bn) refers to billed revenue, not actual income received.” Even if R210 million of this R1bn is still owed to the city, the total amount collected over and above what was budgeted or planned for, in water and sanitation will still be R1bn, since residents will simply have to settle their outstanding accounts – they have no other choice. So, the total amount over recovered still stands at R1bn. The outstanding balances will not just simply disappear into thin air.

Similarly, her continual insistence on an increase of 10.1% increase in water tariff is also rubbish. The water tariff for the first 6kl increased from R4 to R24 per kl. This corresponds to an increase of 500%, not the garbage of 10.1% stated by Limberg.

This once again proves that Limberg is continuing with her crusade of fooling residents of Cape Town.

She should realise that her lies spewed out in public will never become fact.
