Pupils sing ‘Song For Mandela’ at festival
THE VOICES of about 450 children from 21 primary schools in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek filled the air in the Coetzenburg Centre on Saturday as they paid tribute to Nelson Mandela’s centenary through their Song For Mandela.
The pupils who participated in the annual e’Bosch School Choir Festival sung accompanied by the Stellenbosch University Wind Band to celebrate their heritage and diversity and were well received at the music festival.
“We are very happy with the successful event and the fact that we could celebrate the Nelson Mandela centenary.
“We also thank the Stellenbosch University Wind Band and their conductor Pamela Kierman, which accompanied the mass choir, as well as Terence Pietersen, the soloist, in the Song For Mandela,” said e’Bosch Primary Schools Choir Festival spokesperson Tarnia van Zitters.
She said the event is the seventh e’Bosch Heritage festival to be held and has grown exponentially over the years, resulting in the festival splitting into separate primary and secondary school concerts.
The second concert will be the e’Bosch Secondary School Choir Festival at the Stellenbosch Town Hall on September 19.
Van Zitters said the Stellenbosch e’Bosch Heritage Project is a unique movement in the country as it hosts at least 30 events a year, with all the neighbouring “dorpies” of the district participating in the celebrations.
