The SA economy slipped into a recession. This is what Twitter users had to say…
@pmachaba What does this mean for an ordinary man on the street like me?
@Mavesta South Africans are big spenders and always in shopping malls, that should count as a good economic activity… but the numbers don’t lie.
@Hobo_Foundation If spring represents recovery and summer the peak of economic growth, then the SA economy is in Autumn.
@SimonPGrindrod Cyril sold us a lemon. Then he increased VAT
on lemonade. @Rooinek12 I completely misunderstood what “new dawn” meant! If Ramaphosa had been clearer, perhaps he could tell us how he plans to get us out of this? Or deeper into it.
@Thulani16171324 Not surprised. If 27% of the population that should be helping in building this economy are sitting at home not working, this is what you can expect.
@mushtella
What is causing this? Is the land issue a factor? With impending elections it could worsen. @PositivelyNot
The recession is entirely of Cyril’s making. Had he appointed a small, competent and honest cabinet, purged the ANC of corrupt cadres, and rejected calls for expropriation without compensation, SA would be well on its way to economic recovery!
@Thopzin You can’t grow the economy by milking the people you are dependent on for growth. VAT, petrol, food, interest rates, among others have been increased and that has hit people harder than you can imagine. @PhiwaNk
There’s a whole digital economy they are ignoring when measuring GDP and they don’t want to listen when we try to raise this. The world has changed, economics have changed.
@Guevara_RSA Cut the salaries of ministers and deputy ministers, unless you can justify such high salaries.
@Boity_mbhele If our economy is so bad, why do we still have an influx of people coming this side to do business? Is it really opportunities or freedom?
