It’s six against AmaZulu, and half a dozen for Chiefs

- MINENHLE MKHIZE

minenhle.mkhize@inl.co.za AMAZULU have conceded more goals than they scored this season after five Absa Premiership matches and coach Cavin Johnson wants his team to show defensive resilience against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday at FNB Stadium (6pm).

Usuthu have kept one clean sheet and conceded eight goals - three goals in each of their last two games.

They were thumped 3-0 at Bidvest Wits and drew 3-3 against Sundowns this past weekend at home.

Chiefs have notched up 16 strikes in 10 matches across all the competitions. Only SuperSport and Maritzburg United have prevented Chiefs from finding the back of the net this season.

“You’ve got to be on your toes all the time. They have to be more aware. They’ve got to know that you should be resilient in your defending,” Johnson said.

Usuthu are pointless and goalless on the road. They lost 1-0 against SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits beat them 3-0.

While Usuthu have condeded six goals in the last two matches, Amakhosi have scored the same number of goals in their last two outings, but Johnson is not fazed by that.

“Scared? No, I’m not sacred. If I’m scared I’ll be coaching in the National First Division,” Johnson elaborated.

The last time AmaZulu defeated Amakhosi was on March 3, 2007.

Usuthu are against the odds but their performance against the star-studded Sundowns side should raise their confidence going to Johannesburg.

As much as Chiefs are free-scoring, they have been vulnerable at the back. They conceded 11 goals in 10 encounters. Bidvest Wits and SuperSport have shown that it is possible to get results at FNB, having beaten Amakhosi on their home turf.
