TALK SHOP, OR REAL TALK ABOUT JOBS?

- AZIZ HARTLEY

THE JURY is out on whether the job summit in Joburg is another talk shop.

Saftu is boycotting the event. Fedusa welcomed it while Cosatu is participating – unconvinced it will deliver something constructive.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced 275 000 jobs will be created following an agreement between business, labour and the government.

This is very good news, but what about thousands of jobs continually being shed? Former president Jacob Zuma had promised the creation of a million jobs. It turned out to be nothing but hot air. The economy is struggling. What we need is less talk. We need an enabling environment so that jobs can materialise.

On a different note – Springbok fans have their tails up ahead of the clash with the All Blacks at Loftus tomorrow. The Bokke beat the world champions in Wellington last month, followed by victory over the Wallabies. But the All Blacks – their pride dented, are bringing out the big guns. Check the scoreboard just after 7pm.

Meanwhile Cape Town City faithfuls are hoping the Citizens bounce back against Maritzburg United tomorrow. City looked fatigued during Tuesday’s defeat against Wits. On the EPL front I suggest tomorrow be bypassed and all attention get saved for Sunday’s mouthwatering clash between the league’s pacesetters. Word has it the town may be painted red.
