Animal Welfare Society laps up water donation
THE Twizza soft drinks company donated 10 000 litres of bottled water to the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa (AWS SA).
The organisation said it was tremendously grateful for the contribution, as it would help with the continuation of saving animal lives and improving services.
“Twizza’s water donation is the single biggest one received to date. It is double the amount we were expecting.
“It’s in sealed bottles, so it should store well for future use, although we have already started to use the first of the 10 pallets received.
“Our profession is an unavoidably thirsty one – having to provide fresh drinking water for more than 130 animals every day (including three horses and a small herd of goats), cleaning, disinfecting, doing laundry and not forgetting human consumption,” said Allan Perrins, resource development and communications officer of AWS SA.
The donation is seen as a reflection of the values of animal welfare and of leadership.
“They truly care about the community and acknowledges how important it is to consider both citizens and animals,” said Perrins.
“Many pet owners are in survival mode and almost entirely dependent on us for the well-being of their pets.
“We have also noticed an increase in the demand for our services and a dip in elective procedures such as vaccinations – which is potentially disastrous for the animals, as prevention is better than cure,” he said.
“The Animal Welfare Society are honoured to be a beneficiary of Twizza and look forward to further collaborations and new possibilities.”
Perrins also encouraged the public to get more involved and make donations as they receive no funding from the government.
If the public would like to help make a difference, they can apply for a MySchool card and nominate the AWS SA as a beneficiary, he said.
“The Animal Welfare Society will be at the Killarney dog walk tonight if anyone would like to sign up.”
