Crime is something we can all agree on

ONE THING WE, as South Africans, can all agree on, is that crime is a major issue in our country.

Crime has become too common. It’s out of control. We have a national crime crisis, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) are finding it difficult to cope.

The crime statistics were released recently. On average, there are 57 murders every day. There are thousands of rapes, robberies and vehicle hijackings annually.

We are living in fear. Many South Africans are virtually living as prisoners in their own homes!

Drastic times need drastic action. Police must get their act together. We know they have a shortage of resources and the government must make additional funds available.

While we point fingers at the government and police, we must also play our part. We need partnerships at all levels to #MakeSASafe. Active citizenry is needed. Communities must take ownership and reclaim the streets.

We must also be the eyes and ears of the police. Don’t protect criminals. Do the right thing and blow the whistle on crime. Now is the time!

It’s time for action! We need to see crime levels coming down. We need to see a professional police service. We need to restore confidence in South Africa. Corporate SA must also invest into our future. We need to protect our children and our future. Now is the time!

The Namola/Dial Direct Safety App is a good example of using technology to protect and help us. This app is available free and hundreds of users are getting help fast each week.

At the press of a button, one is guaranteed a call back. Through GPS location, authorities are alerted to assist. Over 212 000 people have downloaded the Namola.

Requesting and receiving help is often difficult and lonely for victims. I know I need help, but there is no one to help me.

The Namola/DialDirect safety app was designed as a simple and effective way to request emergency assistance.

Namola ensures that every user has a dedicated operator to deal with their emergency from beginning to end, providing the support that other emergency lines often lack.

There is a real life person, holding the user’s hand every step of the way. This offer of genuine care and empathy for what a person may be going through in an emergency is what sets Namola apart from other emergency lines.

At Namola, the Response Centre operators will follow up with the user frequently during their emergency to check on their wellbeing and establish whether help has arrived.

Namola is putting the trust back into emergency services and creating a platform for South Africans to get help fast. With hundreds of South Africans signing up for Namola every single day, it won’t be long until this vision becomes a reality.
