We will hit our sweet spot – Sugar

MAMELODI Sundowns’ diminutive midfielder, Tiyani “Sugar” Mabunda, is confident that his side will soon get their mojo and the winning momentum back.

Sundowns started the season slowly. They were dumped by Cape Town City in the semi-finals of the MTN8. Sundowns also crashed out in the group stages of the Caf Champions League.

The Brazilians are seventh on the log with 11 points after seven league matches. They are six points behind the leaders, Bidvest Wits, who have played two games more.

Mabunda is confident that the sun will soon shine for Sundowns.

“We want to recover from the little slump that we are experiencing by collecting maximum points in our league matches. I believe that God will grant us grace and we shall be back to where we belong,” Mabunda said.

Sundowns have only won two games in seven league outings. They have played five stalemates which is equivalent to 10 points dropped.

“I believe that the gap between the so called big teams and small teams has been closed. It is never easy now. Every single team is there to compete. Anybody can win the league in this season because every team is performing. You can see the level of hunger from any team that is competing in top flight football. It is not like in the past where it was a given that this team will win or that one will not win. Now it is about who wants it more,” he added.

Sundowns will face Bloemfontein Celtic in the first round of the Telkom Knockout at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday at 6pm.

“You can now tell that the so called small teams are not feeling inferior to the so called big teams. It is about who wants it on the day. I believe that Mamelodi Sundowns is a great team. We’ve been through these situations before. For the past five years we’ve been starting slow but usually get our momentum as the season progressed. We know where we belong. We know what we need to do. We know our goals and we look forward to retaining them,” Mabunda elaborated.
