Running for fun
The Color Run will be rewarding participants this year
FOR the first time, The Color Run is taking place at Sea Point Promenade.
Founded in 2011, the mission of the race is to bring people together and make the world a happier, healthier place. The run aims to create an experience that’s more about the memories you make. This year includes exciting firsts, with organiser and marketing manager for Sport Vendo, James Bell revealing that medals will also be handed out to participants.
“We have changed it and this year it has a carnival theme, and that is to bring in elements of Mardi Gras and colour. For the first time we are giving everyone who makes it a finishers medal.”
Bell said that while it’s an un-timed event and that there are no winners, there are medals for runners who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. “It’s good to reward people for making an effort to get off the couch and finishing the race. It’s not a reward for time, but a reward for participating in physical activity.”
“It’s also the first time that the event will be taking place at the Sea Point Promenade, as last year’s race was at Green Point.
“There is something always going on. Entertainment along the whole route and the festival zone at the end.
“It’s completely family-friendly, so no alcohol is involved and the powder is made from organic corn-starch, which is not painful or harmful.
“It’s loads of entertainment and from a parent perspective, it’s a fun way to get the kids out and do exercise. Obviously, people like to get plastered in colour and starting in a white T-shirt and ending up looking like a rainbow.”
The Color Run is a global brand and Bell stressed that they pay close attention to detail, ensuring everything is done very professionally.
Participants get T-shirts, headbands and temporary tattoos at the event.
The event takes place on Saturday, November 10. A limited number of tickets are on sale. To enter, visit https://thecolorrun.co.za/locations/ cape-town/ for more information.
