Station’s car hijacked

A STAFF vehicle belonging to Radio Zibonele, in the Western Cape, was hijacked minutes after the driver dropped off one of the workers at her home on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle, which is used to transport staff and run errands for the station, was not fitted with a tracker.

According to the station programme manager, Zweli Nokhatywa, the silver-grey Etios with the registrati­on CA 907 216 was hijacked at Khwezi township in Khayelitsh­a by three men armed with firearms.

Nokhatywa said that the incident happened after the driver dropped off one of the workers at her home at 5am.

He said no one was hurt during the robbery. “The car was taken at gun point by three armed men. No one was hurt during the hijacking, they only took the car. We are pleading with our listeners, whenever they see the reported car to report it immediatel­y to police.

“We have heard from members of the public that the car is seen running around the areas of Site C in Khayelitsh­a. We hope police will make an arrest soon we have reported the case to the Khayelitsh­a police,” he said.

Khayelitsh­a police spokespers­on station commander Brigadier Mkhuseli Nkwitshi was not immediatel­y available for comment. |
