RARE FIND

-

LAST weekend a unique bird was dropped off at Cango Wildlife Ranch. The Red-tailed Tropicbird breeds on remote tropical islands as far east as the Hawaiian Islands and on the south-west Australian coast. Outside breeding season they may travel as far north as Japan and as far south as New Zealand. They are known to breed on the coast of Mozambique. South Africans rarely come across these ‘air dancers’. The last sighting is believed to have been four years ago, near Port Elizabeth. This bird was found on February 2 in Bergsig, Calitzdorp. | Cango Wildlife Ranch
