MYSTERY surrounds the shooting death of a prominent EFF activist inside her shack in TR section informal settlement in Site C in Khayelitsha on Saturday evening.

Khuliswa Nondala, 30, died at the scene from gunshot wounds in the upper body after two armed men kicked down the door of her shack and shot her before fleeing with her boyfriend’s cellphone.

Nondala, a mother of a 15-year-old boy died instantly.

Nondala’s younger sister Sisanda Nondala said this was the second criminal hit on the family in less than a week. Last week, two armed men entered their home and robbed the family of a plasma television set.

“We are shocked at what has happened to my sister. She was sitting with her boyfriend when she was shot at.

“All we know is that her boyfriend’s cellphone was robbed. Her boyfriend told us that three men came knocking at the door, and when they refused to open, they kicked down the door.

“They forced their way in and during a struggle they shot at my sister and took her boyfriend’s phone.

“We are still confused as to why they shot at her. Last week we were robbed of our television by three men. We don’t know if this is the same person who robbed us of the television.

“We are now fearing for our lives that these people will strike again.”

Yesterday EFF Cape Metro regional secretary Banzi Dambuza said Nondala was an active member from the EFF’s inception and served in the interim structure that led the party in the metro before the 2014 general elections. She was elected chairperson in her ward, and was a field worker.

“She served the organisation with distinction. We will miss her commitment to the revolution and her recruiting skills.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Noxolo Rwexana said police responded to a shooting incident on Saturday night at 23.45 in the informal settlement and found the body of a woman with gunshot wounds in the upper body.

Rwexana said that she died due to her injuries. “Circumstances surrounding this incident is under investigation. Police are following all leads.”
