HOMEOWNERS will soon have full control over their water usage through a smartphone app.

A group of seven innovative individuals based in Paarl came together to create an app, HEB Utility APP, powered by In-4mer.

HEB Maintenance, a plumbing and solar service business, partnered with Accitrack, a technology business, with the aim of coming up with a unique water management system for water meters and geysers.

The app will work together with a water meter. An individual will be able to measure the water usage at home and remotely with the use of the app.

“The HEB meter will be able to detect excessive flow, such as leakages, which will notify the client, plumber or authority.

“The meter will send an alert to the client and the client would be able to remotely close the meter to prevent water loss,” said Craig Cullis managing director at HEB Maintenance.

Cullis said that it is a three-way communication app that lives in the cloud and gives the city and individuals control of their usage via a smartphone or laptop.

“The meter has a built-in control valve that cannot be unplugged like other smart meters.

Cullis said that this technology will be even more efficient for the city as they will be able to receive accurate real-time water usage direct to a central point without having to constantly send out water meter readers.

The application can even be integrated to their billing system. |
