Schools rise to challenge to ensure safety of pupils

- COUNCILLOR MARK RH KLEINSCHMIDT (DA) | Ward 60, Lansdowne

I CONDUCTED a site visit to several schools in Ward 60, and can attest to the hard work and preparedness by principals and staff to ensure their school community’s safety as the balance of pupils return, and private early childhood development centres are granted permission to reopen.

Covid-19 level 3 regulations are in perfect place, and I went through the routine of being screened, my temperature taken, hands and feet sanitised, and completing the Covid19 register in the school’s reception area, before permission was granted to proceed to the principal.

School Leadership Management teams devised a timetable roster for only 50% of pupils to attend two days of the school week, and the other 50% to attend two other days to secure social distancing.

I applaud the innovative and creative methods devised by schools and their resilience as educationists rise to the challenge of preventing and curbing the spread of Covid-19 infections.

Under such trying and challenging conditions, I want to thank all educators, including preschool early childhood centres, for going the extra mile in ensuring the safety of our “precious cargo”.

I implore those parents who have the means to try their utmost to pay their school fees in order for all educational institutions to sustain themselves and fulfil financial obligations. To all involved in education, your pedagogical ethic and selflessness is appreciated.

May God bless and protect you.
