Important climate post for City filled

- ZIMKHITHA SULELO | Chairperson: Energy and Climate Change, Ward 51 PR Councillor

ENERGY and Climate Change welcomes a new senior professional officer (SPO) for citizen action communications and stakeholder management.

The City of Cape Town is asking residents to have a say on the draft climate change strategy until September 30, but what’s also important to highlight is the appointment of Cabral Wicht to the Sustainable Energy Markets (SEM) team as the SPO for citizen action communications and stakeholder management.

There was always a need to engage with the community and to hear what climate change means to them.

Cabral Wicht joins the City at a critical time with a wealth of knowledge in the climate change space from the Western Cape government.

First, she was at the department of the premier as manager of the 110% Green Initiative which aimed to encourage people and organisations to create the connection between green and the economy through practical actions.

In 2015 she became manager of the Energy Security Game-changer, a programme run closely with the City. Both of these positions have had strong stakeholder engagement and communication focus as their goals relied on collaborative action.

Her role in SEM is to grow a comprehensive citizen action communication and stakeholder engagement programme. Cabral completed her Master’s degree in climate change and development through the African Climate Development initiative at UCT.

She looks forward to engaging with the residents of Cape Town as the Climate Change Strategy develops.
