Golden Arrow Bus Services celebrates 160th anniversary
Message from Chief Executive Officer Francois Meyer
AS Golden Arrow celebrates 160 years of providing scheduled passenger services to the people of Cape Town, I cannot help but feel an immense sense of pride.
It is quite a remarkable feeling being able to trace our history back to Cape Town’s very first horsedrawn tram, particularly when I look at where we are today. We have weathered so many storms and the last year has certainly been one of the most difficult in our history.
After 160 years, Golden Arrow finds itself inextricably woven into the very fibre of our beautiful city. Millions of Capetonians have made use of our services, thousands have spent time in the company’s employ and thousands have benefited from the company’s corporate social responsibility programmes.
As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we would like to thank everyone who has been a part of our incredible journey. Golden Arrow has never been a “bus business” – it has always been a “people business”. We move people, we employ people, and we uplift people. This is our true legacy.
To our employees – past and present – thank you for your service. You are the true driving force behind this company. To our passengers – thank you for trusting us to get you to where you need to be. To our stakeholders – let us continue to work together to provide the best possible service to the people of Cape Town.
In this supplement we take a look back and cast our eyes forward. As I write this, we are already looking to the future as we assess the viability of an electric bus. There is much to be excited about and it is my hope that you will all stay aboard as we traverse the city’s roads for many years to come.
