Titans’ ship slowly sinking with their championship

- OBAKENG MELETSE

THE Cricket SA T20 Challenge is reaching the business end, and with the rampant Warriors’ momentum stalled by the Titans, the rest of the pack still have a bone to pick with each other.

The Lions have slowly shown why they are the kings of the jungle as they edge closer to their best form.

The top four sides are starting to pull away from those in the middle of the pack. There could still be a few twists ahead, but you just can’t shake the feeling that the fat lady will surely be making her presence felt very soon.

The Rocks, in desperate need of points, will visit the Titans at SuperSport Park in Centurion this evening (6pm start).

The Pretoria-based side let a golden opportunity pass them by when they lost to the Dolphins by three runs on Wednesday. With only one win in their last five fixtures they missed out on an opportunity to up their net run rate, as well as get a much-needed bonus point to close the gap to Western Province, who now lead them by a comfortable six points after 10 matches.

Dragons v Western Province - 6pm

The Western Province roller-coaster moves to the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom today. Both sides are winless in their last three fixtures and will need to get back to winning ways. The Dragons have been on the wrong side of the weather in recent times and are coming off a 19-run loss against the Dolphins at home.

A semi-final place is a long shot for the North West side but with the quality they have, they could have a say in who makes it to the next round.

Nothing but a win will do for Province and they will need to quickly move past their up-and-down form and find consistency, especially with the knockout stages fast approaching but most importantly, to kill any hopes the Titans might have of sneaking into the play-offs. Any slip-ups by Province could make for an interesting clash on the April 21, when the Titans visit them at Newlands.

KZN Tuskers v Warriors - 6pm

Meanwhile, the KZN Tuskers have it all to do when they meet tournament favourites the Warriors at St Georges Park also this evening. The Eastern Cape side will be heading into a match following a defeat for the first time after they lost by 12 runs to the Titans, ending their eight-match unbeaten streak.

They come against bottom side the KZN Tuskers, a side you you also need to be wary of. In recent times they have managed to go to Pretoria and steal all the points as they beat the struggling defending champions by six wickets. On their day no mountain is too high for them, as the Lions have also found out.
