SOYA bean futures fell to the lowest level in more than six months yesterday on reports that planting of the crop has progressed well.

Soya beans for March delivery slid 1.6 percent to R4 535 a ton, the lowest since June 21 last year, on the SA Futures Exchange. Farmers are expected to plant 6.8 percent more land with soya beans this season.

The oilseed for March delivery fell 0.5 percent to $13.815 a bushel ( R4 344 a ton) on the Chicago Board of Trade at 10.20am in London.

March white maize fell 0.7 percent to R2 164 a ton on the SA Futures Exchange. Yellow maize dropped 0.3 percent to R2 064 a ton. – Bloomberg
