Transfer dilemmas for big clubs

- Hosea Ramphekwa

WITH the transfer window set to close tomorrow, a mad rush is expected at the PSL offices as teams will be jostling to register players for the 2016/17 Premiership season. Most of the big teams have made signings but there are some that need to beef up. What will the Gauteng teams do?

Wits

Together with SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits is one of the teams that have bought right. Gavin Hunt has acquired players that have added value to his side. So far, Hunt doesn’t need to make any additions as he has a team that can compete for silverware.

Kaizer Chiefs

The fact that Steve Komphela persists with the likes of Bernard Parker and Edward Manqele points to lack of depth and quality in the team. In an ideal world, Parker and Manqele shouldn’t be putting on the Chiefs jersey. Throughout the years Chiefs have thrived on playmakers and proven goalscorers. Chiefs need to add two or three quality players in the side. They need two strikers, who will not need much time to acclimatise to conditions but hit the ground running. Having lost Yeye Letsholonyane, they need a similar player with great intellect and influence. Chiefs don’t need quantity but quality.

Orlando Pirates

What if Tendai Ndoro gets injured? What if Ndoro is suspended or off form? Who will score goals for the Buccaneers? Ertugral should sign two more prolific strikers to add depth and more options upfront. This is by far Pirates’ biggest problem this season.

Mamelodi Sundowns

This season Sundowns are going to be involved in a lot of competitions. It’s key for Pitso Mosimane to reinforce the team. His team is well covered in all other departments except for upfront. Recently, Mosimane added new signing in Ivorian forward Yannick Zakri from Asec Mimosa. It would be wise for Mosimane to add another local striker. Polokwane City’s Thobani Mncwango can be a good catch for the Brazilians.

SuperSport United

Stuart Baxter has made some good signings ahead of the season. He has beefed up in all departments. The recruitment of Reyaard Pieterse seems to be inspiring regular keeper Ronwen Williams to give his best. Williams has been outstanding in the past two matches. In defence, the addition of Morgan Gould and Onismor Bashera has given them an experienced look at the back. The midfield is also overflowing with talent, with the likes of Letsholonyane, Cole Alexander and Thabo Mnyamane. Overall, SuperSport have two to three players in each position. Hence, there’s no need for them to sign more players. All Baxter needs is to get the combination right so that things can fall into place. His selections will be key.
