Apology to former Cape Times editor Alide Dasnois
On 10 May 2016, the Cape Times published a story about a settlement reached in the dispute between Independent Newspapers and former Cape Times editor Alide Dasnois. The headline was “Independent vindicated as Dasnois settlement reached”.
The Press Ombudsman, Johan Retief, has ruled that the Cape Times has breached section 10.1 of the Code of Ethics and Conduct. The Cape Times, without prejudice, apologises to Dasnois for stating as fact in its headline that Independent Newspapers had been vindicated, when it was an expression of opinion.
