Zambia religious split

-

LUSAKA: Stakeholders have reacted to Zambian President-elect Edgar Lungu’s decision to create a ministry for religious affairs.

Lungu announced he would create a ministry to be responsible for religious affairs to promote Christian values. “If we have a stand-alone ministry we can effectively translate our status as a Christian nation,” he said.

Some have welcomed the move, saying it will bring sanity in religious circles, others have said it will cause disunity.

Bishop John Mambo said the country has three church mother bodies which could do the functions the ministry intends to do. – ANA
