Be blunt with Eskom
WITH the ongoing “ping pong” standoff between the Treasury and Eskom regarding procurement contracts relating to coal feedstock, specifically with one supplier namely Tegeta, it really seems strange why in one e-mail Eskom cannot answer a simple question: i.e. Contract ABC, grade 123, purchases for last 12 months and amount paid.
For starters any Eskom employee is a state employee and not holding a political office.
Compliance with an instruction from the Treasury is not an optional item for a civil servant employed in an accounting post working for the state.
Secondly, and here comes the zinger, the Treasury should be more specific, direct and blunt.
Give the chief accounting officer 48 hours to provide such details. Should such details be omitted, an application would be made to the High Court requesting full and complete disclosure (i.e. not just page one of the appendix to the contract/payments schedule).
Furthermore those officials known to have deliberately obstructed will be held personally liable for legal costs and face disciplinary action for insubordination, and face dismissal with loss of employee benefits. Muhammad Omar Durban North
