By George! It’s another loss for FC Cape Town

- Liam Moses

FC CAPE TOWN slumped to a third consecutive defeat in the NFD yesterday when they lost 4-1 to Royal Eagles at NNK Stadium.

It was an even encounter for the first 30 minutes as both sides pressed the ball relentlessly to find space and constantly lost possession.

The match looked destined to end goalless before Eagles took the lead when Sydwyn George beat his marker to a long throw-in and flicked in a header at the near post.

The visitors doubled the lead five minutes later when Siyanda Ngubo was brought down in the box, George making no mistake from the spot.

The hosts pulled one back in stoppage time when Ranga Chivaviro rose highest at a corner to nod in a quality cross.

The momentum was with the African Beasts when the second half kicked off, but they were unable to stop George from restoring Eagles’ lead and completing his hattrick in the 61st minute.

And the Eagles killed off the game in the 73rd minute when Raymond Monama made it 4-1 with a deft volley from an awkwardly-placed cross.

The defeat was FC Cape Town’s fourth in eight games and would have left them dangerously close to the relegation zone were it not for some favourable results elsewhere yesterday.

Santos notched up their third consecutive draw in a 0-0 stalemate against last-placed NFD newcomers Magesi FC, while Cape Town All Stars managed to hold the on-form Black Leopards to a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Milano United lost 2-1 to league-leaders Thanda Royal Zulu and Stellenbosch FC picked up their fourth win in five games with a 3-1 victory against Jomo Cosmos.
