Rock Girls’ one-stop Brave shop

- Miche Williams and Kelly Petersen

OUR “Brave” shop was launched last week as a social business, which means we believe your purchasing power can be used to create social change and lives.

Our products are designed and tested by Rock Girls.

Brave is honoured to work with dedicated, talented artists and designers from across Africa. Since the creation of the very first Rock Girl bench, we have worked on the principle that beautiful things can create social change.

We are also committed to using environmentally friendly materials and recycled paper whenever possible.

India Baird founded Brave in 2016 in partnership with the Rock Girls to create beautiful things that would challenge people to be brave.

Brave trains and hires girls to run the business and proceeds go towards creating more programmes for girls.

Every Brave product has been designed by the girls, capturing their stories and inspiring the purchases to be brave in their own lives.

Each product in the shop has a story of its own.

Many people wanted to know what it smells like to be brave and we created our own personal scents with the internationally acclaimed perfumer Tam Violet Frazer.

Frazer invited us to help design our very first unisex Brave perfume. Brave has hints of pencil shavings with undertones of cedar wood.

We wanted an outdoor smell to show how adventurous we are. It’s made entirely from locally-sourced ingredients and is perfect for anyone with an adventurous spirit.

Our Brave journals are a main component of our Rock Girl Road Trips. Our travel journals and diaries can be used to record your own adventures and journeys.

In our shop we advertise our awards, and the Brave Adventure Tote Bag was inspired by the Rock Girl Road Trip to the Kalahari. The Tote Bag of leather and canvas is lined with natural cotton and is the colour of the Kalahari sky.

Our Brave Tees are worn by Rock Girls on their Road Trips, and when you wear the Brave top, you feel like nothing can scare you.

For the last four years, Rock Girls have worked with Art In The Forest to create beautiful handmade ceramics that tell their stories and the stories of others.

The Brave shop will be a second home to most Rock Girls, where we will feel safe, sharing our stories and discussing ideas.

The Brave shop will be open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am-4pm, or by appointment.

We are located at 3-9 Rose Street, Cape Town.

Come and check it out. You have seen nothing like it yet.
