We’ll soon be dinner

- Ben Smit Melkbosstrand

CANNIBALISM is widely defined as eating the flesh or entrails of other humans. It is, of course, not confined to humans.

Homer Smith, in his book From Fish to Philosopher, described the way in which cannibalism controlled the population of spiders in England.

When insects were plentiful in the meadows, spider numbers grew exponentially. But when the insect numbers dwindled, hunger induced the remaining spiders to eat each other, thus automatically controlling the spider population.

We had some “fun” cannibals like Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, but with the global population increasing by more than one million new (and additional) mouths to feed on the planet every four days, the time is near (or perhaps it came a decade ago already) when the competition for food is going to be so fierce that mass eradications of humans are on the cards – or perhaps cannibalism in the guise of warfare or “ethnic cleansing”.

The spectre of Arabia and the State of Israel comes to mind; but the lower profile of clashes in Africa are, in fact, more relevant and gruesome.

The “humane” trend of feeding starving people is commendable, but it tends to aggravate the problem by keeping more people alive who then multiply, and thus the vicious circle persists. Politicians survive on votes, and they harvest votes by making promises suggesting Utopia.

Of course, the truth is quite the opposite, for all the handouts, medical care schemes, feeding schemes, soup kitchens and so on, only serve to delay the moment when we are going to “eat” one another under the guise of war, etc.

Money spent on Aids sufferers is humane but has serious consequences.

These are some of the reasons why we as global citizens need to get rid of politicians and get independent people with business acumen, common sense and no financial incentives to attempt to fix the mess.

Gentleman Trump is an early and experimental example; people should refuse to vote for any politician and insist on nominating independent thinkers and people with a proven track record of efficacy, and simply declare them independent candidates and give the stupid politicians a cold shoulder – the planet and humanity’s future may depend thereon.
