Anti-Semitic bomb threats in US
ELEVEN US Jewish Community Centres (JCC) across the US have been threatened with bomb attacks this week, figures by the JCC Association showed.
All the threats proved to be false alarms after thorough investigation. A total of 69 false bomb threats have been tallied in North America since the beginning of this year, across 27 states in the US and one province in Canada.
“We are concerned about the anti-Semitism behind these threats, and the repetition of threats intended to interfere with day-to-day life,” said David Posner, the director of strategic performance at the JCC Association of North America.
Furthermore, about 170 Jewish graves in a Missouri cemetery were damaged at the weekend, according to The Washington Post.
US President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, tweeted on Monday night to condemn the threats: “America is a nation built on the principle of religious tolerance. We must protect our houses of worship & religious centers.”
A recent report tracing extremism says the rise of right-wing populism is probably behind the increasing hate-mongering.
