Bolivia acts on racism
THE Bolivian government yesterday approved the creation of a decolonisation task force aimed at eradicating racism and discrimination in the police corps.
General Abel de la Barra, the first Afro-Bolivian to reach his position, proposed to create the “decolonisation” office during his inauguration speech as the new police commander.
The officer experienced discrimination and racism himself when he joined the National Police Academy, at which “the punishments inflicted on him were excessive and without reason, just because of skin colour”, fellow cadets said. – Telesur
