Rees-Jones takes over the reins at Inyathelo

She was the developmen­t director for special needs children at Vista Nova School

THE South African Institute for Advancemen­t, Inyathelo, announced the appointmen­t of Jessica Rees-Jones as its new executive director from April 1.

Rees-Jones takes over from acting executive director Nomfundo Walaza, renowned for her human rights-related work both in South Africa and internatio­nally.

Rees-Jones’s experience includes working as a specialist consultant to both the Graça Machel Trust and power producer Cennergi; and a position as chief executive of the Royal Bafokeng Nation Foundation.

She was the foundation director and director of advancemen­t for the Diocesan College in Cape Town (Bishops) and developmen­t director for Vista Nova School for children with special needs. Rees-Jones has obtained qualificat­ions in nonprofit leadership and strategy from Stellenbos­ch University.

Inyathelo Board of Trustees chairperso­n Zenariah Barends said: “Inyathelo is at the helm of providing organi- sational developmen­t and support services to an extensive array of civil society and related organisati­ons.

“I would like to thank our acting executive director Nomfundo Walaza for her insightful and effective leadership during her tenure. Now, we extend a warm welcome to Ms Rees-Jones and look forward to working closely together at a critical time in our democracy.
