New Jaguar F-Types to debut at Simola

- MOTORING STAFF

JAGUAR’S facelifted and updated range of F-Type sportscars will make their South African debut at the brand’s annual Simola Hillclimb, where three of the new models will also participate in the racing action.

The hugely popular motorsport event will run from May 5 to 7 at the Knysna golf resort, and in Saturday and Sunday’s prestigious King of the Hill competition Jaguar will put its revised SVR Coupe and Convertible, along with a Special Edition 400 Sport to the ultimate test up the venue’s 1.9km service road.

The new range features a mild exterior facelift, with restyled, model specific bumpers and optional full LED headlights.

Inside are some new chrome and aluminium trimmings, slimline seats, and Jaguar’s latest generation InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with a 20.3cm tablet-style touchscreen.

There’s also a new ReRun app developed in partnership with GoPro action cameras, and drivers can now record video footage and add overlaid performance data including speed, throttle position, gear selection, braking force and g-force.

The app automatically selects ‘ highlight’ reels, which users can upload to mobile devices and share on social media.

The flagship supercharged V8 SVR, which was launched last year as a 423kW/700Nm allwheel drive coupe, will now also be available in Convertible body style, and a new Special Edition 400 Sport serves as the most powerful of all V6 models with 294kW and 460Nm.

This version, which will only be sold for one year, gets uprated brakes and suspension, special 20-inch wheels in Dark Satin Grey, and specific yellow badging.

For the first time in our market, buyers can also now choose a six-speed manual gearbox in supercharged V6 variants with either 250 or 280kW.

The Jaguar Simola Hillclimb will kick off with Classic Car Friday on May 5 and then roll in to King of the Hill events on the weekend.

Spectator tickets start at R100 for a day pass and R220 for a pit pass, and can be bought at www.itickets.co.za. For more information, visit www.jaguarsimolahillclimb. com
