SA film breaking new ground
THE turnout at the Love By Chance premiere was proof of the calibre of the film.
The cinema, in Hyde Park Corner, was flooded with prominent industry faces, ranging from legends to the new kids on the block.
The red carpet was rolled out, ready for the cast of the movie, both local and international.
Lead actor Atandwa Kani came in full of energy. Kani plays a young aspiring actor, Chance, who heads out to Hollywood to live out his dream.
The film tells the story of two South African actors who are independently in America, trying to break into an over-saturated Hollywood industry. They find themselves in the Hollywood of the south, Atlanta, Georgia, aka “Hotlanta”, following their dream – one audition after another. But nothing comes easy. The leading lady, Altovise Lawrence, who plays Bailey, is on her own path of cracking the acting industry and learning how to survive.
Lawrence, dressed by Quiteria & George, wore a beautiful black ballgown resembling something out of The Black Swan. Effortlessly chic.
Some of the international stars from the movie who attended were Terri J Vaughn, Desi Banks and Ja’el Roberson, all looking glamorous.
The film also included Mzansi’s vibrant Denise Zimba, who who had been MIA for some time. It was good to see her doing big things.
To help celebrate the movie, fellow It’s Complicated actors such as Motlatsi Mafatshe and Thishiwe Ziqubu were there for the screening. Ziqubu wore an LBD (little black dress), showing off her figure.
Isithembiso stars Nandi Mbatha and her on-screen lover Zamani Mbatha were also there, as was soccer legend Lucas Radebe.
Young industry talent lending their support were Thuso Mbedu, Makgotso M and Bohang Moeko.
Others at the event were reality TV star and radio personality Dineo Ranaka, and the MC of the night Dineo Moeketsi, sporting a very interesting top.
Completing the list on the night were Hungani Ndlovu, Sophie Ndaba, Luthuli Dlamini, Nthathi Moshesh, Trevor Gumbi, Vuyolwethu Ngcukana and many others.
The man of the moment recently landed a part in Marvel’s upcoming superhero film, The Black Panther. There are certainly many things for the young actor to celebrate.
Director Samad Davis described Love by Chance as a pioneering film, as it brought together US and South African talent and bridged cultural and continental divides.
Love by Chance opens in South Africa on May 5.
