Outcry over plan to cut cops

- Sandiso Phaliso

THE Social Justice Coalition says it is disturbed and will seek answers for the planned decrease in the number of police officers by 2019/2020.

The Western Cape Community Safety Standing Committee revealed this during a presentation at the organisation’s offices in Khayelitsha yesterday. This would mean that there would be 3 000 fewer police officers because of budget constraints.

Community Safety Standing Committee chairperson Mireille Wenger said the presentation done by national police management was “disturbing”. Wenger said the Western Cape was one of the most poorly resourced provinces.
