Moon, Paige to perform at Alma

- Staff Reporter

MARCIA MOON: From a family of poets, painters, musicians, professors, miners, teachers, butchers and athletes, her experiences and memories would in time be tied together as she found her place in life. Through limited educational systems, a nomadic lifestyle and a fantastic search for something she lost as a teenager, she found her equilibrium through escaping to her world of fantasy through songwriting.

Moon gave up her dream of studying Fine Arts because of unexpected circumstances and chose Law instead. She finished her degree but the arts calling stayed strong. By travelling, exploring people and their cultures, she found the arts and artistic essence in Africa and Europe. Moon is a storyteller and a songwriter . She has an ear for composition, the strange, the magical and the bizarre.

Luna Paige made her debut in the music industry in 1999 when she was invited to record with and be a part of an all-female music production, Eve: Women in the garden of song. Here she sang with four women (including Lesley Rae-Dowling). Since then, Paige has released six albums (four English, two Afrikaans) and two Afrikaans singles (2016). She has performed at arts and music festivals across the country. She regularly tours South Africa and has also been invited to perform in countries such as the Netherlands, Mozambique and Namibia.

At the end of 2015, Paige established a production company and invited artist manager Denise Barnes to be her partner. Iluminar Productions has since then developed musical productions Die Ander Konsert (2015), Korreltjie Kantel (2016), Konnexi (2017), In Her Blues (2017) and co-ordinated the first CTMA -Berklee City Music Outreach Programme in Stellenbosch (2017).
