Top line-up for poetry in McGregor weekend fest
WITNESS captivating poetry in the artists’ haven McGregor.
The fifth annual Poetry in McGregor is taking place from August 25 until 27. The festival aims to promote community spirit by giving a stage to well-known poets and nurturing talented young artists. This special weekend offers poets the chance to shine onstage. With over 90 events, you can expect extraordinary poetry recitals, music events, art and workshops.
Ashley Dowds, Hugh Hodge, Patricia Schonstein, John Maytham, Nic de Jager, Kobus Moolman, Lungiswa Nyatyowa, Lerato Sibanda, Philip de Vos, Diana Ferrus, Lara Kirsten, Fanie Olivier, Koos van der Merwe, Mavis Vermaak, and Wendy Woodward will take part.
Chairperson of the Poetry in MGregor committee Billy Kennedy said: “Someone once wrote that much of the violence and psychological illness and unease in our society is probably due to poetry deprivation.”
As part of the Poetry in McGregor weekend, the MAC project will host the Schools’ Festival on the morning of August 25 where more than 800 pupils from schools in the village and surrounding areas will attend.
Cape Town-based artist Ha Man! with his partner Joke Debaere will present music, songs, drama and poetry.
The Afrikaans group Ruk!, two dynamic young performers, will be performing for the children at this exciting event.
