Manyi’s true colours

- Gavin Hillyard Somerset West

MZWANELE “Jimmy” Manyi (“too many coloureds in the Western Cape”) was at it again, spinning his tales to Justice Malala on the Justice Factor on Monday evening. Even offering Justice a job at ANN7 at double his salary, to “rehabilitate” him so he can do “a proper” job. Try to brainwash him to do cover-ups, more likely.

What an insult to a man of Justice’s stature and intelligence.

Mind you, Jimmy is a seasoned spinner, having defended the indefensible, with regard to our esteemed president, the Guptas, and their ilk, for years.

Jimmy has apparently “borrowed” the money from Oakbay (read Guptas?), to buy ANN7 and TNA, at 10 times the actual value, yet he insists that he is not fronting for them. Mangena’s cartoon of the 22nd says it all.

Jimmy would not, and could not explain why using The New Age (TNA), with a circulation of 153 000, is preferable to using the Sowetan (circulation 5.3 million), and other news channels with multiples of TNA subscribers, as a channel for government “(dis)information”. Does this make sense for any government that wants to communicate honestly with its citizens? I would be hard pressed to refute the view that it’s just not logical,or ethical, not does it make financial sense.

Could it be that this arrangement will just be a conduit to siphon hundreds of millions from the fiscus to Jimmy, the Guptas and all the president’s yes-men under the guise of putting out news and information? News and information that the Zuptas want put out? Propaganda along the lines of the previous government perhaps, and not necessarily the truth or balanced reporting?

As for Jimmy’s assertion that he has not even met the Guptas. Come on Jimmy, pull the other one. It’s got bells on it.
