-

THE head of Treasury in KwaZulu-Natal, Simiso Magagula, donated hundreds of school uniforms to Thamela Primary School in uMlazi.

In his third visit to the school since last year, Magagula said: “This is one way of dealing with poverty. We need these children to focus on their education without worrying about their appearance when among other children at school… We have been making these interventions in many schools, targeting similar children.”

Treasury said 565 orphaned and vulnerable primary school children from uMlazi, Malukazi, Isipingo, Ezimbokodweni and Folweni areas had benefited from the donation as Magagula handed over the last of his 250 full sets of school uniforms at Thamela Primary School.

“Any investment in education is an investment in our future leaders,” Magagula.

“We will now focus on achieving good results and not worry about poor children who were without uniform.”

The department said Magagula was accompanied by the local political leadership, school governing body department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs representatives.

School principal Nana Masoka said her school was grateful for this much-needed donation. “This outreach, under the leadership of Magagula, promises to benefit more poor children in the future in various schools,” provincial treasury said. – ANA
