Makhosi Khoza quits ANC

ANC MP Makhosi Khoza has quit the party amid claims by the party that she was bitter after she lost out on being appointed to the cabinet.

ANC deputy chief whip in Parliament Doris Dlakude said yesterday she was not surprised by Khoza’s decision.

However, she said Khoza did not notify them and that they only saw it in media reports.

She said she did not know Khoza’s reasons for resigning.

Dlakude said Khoza should have resigned from her branch. “She said she resigned from the ANC. She was supposed to have resigned from her branch,” Dlakude added.

This was the same view expressed by ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa, who said they were not informed of Khoza’s resignation.

“Her branch has not received any resignation letter or the ANC caucus in Parliament,” said Kodwa.

Describing Khoza as having “uncontrollable ambition”, Kodwa refuted her charges that she had left the ANC because it had failed to take action on corruption within its ranks.

“She’s got uncontrollable ambition for power. She thought she was being sidelined. She wanted to be a minister during the last cabinet reshuffle in March,” said Kodwa.

Instead of being a disciplined ANC member, he charged that Khoza had become a “media darling”, but that the party was not worried about her.

He said her quitting the ANC was all co-ordinated, and the party was awaiting the announcement that she had joined the DA.

“The ANC is the ANC of high moral values. Those individuals who are corrupt do not describe the ANC,” said Kodwa.

DA chief whip John Steenhuisen said Khoza had been guilty of nothing, and instead her values no longer aligned with those of the ANC.

While Khoza said she would definitely not be joining the DA, Steenhuisen encouraged her to stay in the “front line” of politics instead of disappearing off the public stage like Mamphela Ramphele.

“She needs to find a political home. She has a lot to offer and she must do so from the frontline.

‘‘The DA is a good value-fit for her,” said Steenhuisen.
