Jazz fest to put Muizenberg on map
THE first Muizenberg Jazz Festival is expected to attract jazz lovers to the seaside town when it launches at the Masque Theatre next week.
The two-day event, which will take place on the nights of October 13 and 14, will feature such wellknown jazz artists as Bokani Dyer and McCoy Mrubata.
Tucked between iconic Surfers’ Corner and Muizenberg mountain peak, the Masque Theatre’s proximity to main roads, highways and public transport makes world-class entertainment easily accessible to people coming from anywhere and by any means.
The line-up this year will feature 10 jazz acts, each performing an hour-long set.
As part of the festival there will also be a photographic exhibition in the theatre.
The festival offers diverse jazz genres such as classic jazz, contemporary jazz, afro jazz, Cape jazz and world jazz.
Apart from performances by the award-winning Dyer and the much-loved Mrubata, it will include the Ella Fitzgerald Tribute Show A’ LA ELLA! headlined by US singer Yvette Norwood-Tiger.
Muriel Marco, one of the festival organisers, said the vision of the festival was to “provide a place for the jazz artist and art form to thrive, to thoroughly entertain our audience, and to leave the surrounding community and audience enlightened, engaged and enriched”.
Workshops organised by the South African Association for Jazz Education will also take place at the theatre on Saturday, October 14.
