Don’t blame referees

- Romanius Zulu Colesberg

MAMELODI Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane needs to grow up and stop being a crybaby. Each time he loses a game he blames the referees.

On Saturday night, Mamelodi Sundowns were beaten fair and square by AmaZulu FC, but Mosimane blamed the referee for the loss. Mosimane said after the game: “The AmaZulu goal, in my opinion, from where I was sitting, I am happy to be wrong, looked offside. Every week Percy (Tau) is being ruled out for offside, when he is not offside.”

The referee might have made a mistake in allowing Siyabonga Nomvethe’s goal to stand but that does not give Pitso permission to criticise referees. Mistakes are part and parcel of the football. As for Percy Tau, he is known for being over excited when he plays which results in him being ruled offside on many occasions.

Pitso needs to improve his game instead of blaming the referees. Mamelodi Sundowns had enough chances to score more goals but their strikers wasted many chances. Mosimane was outwitted by Cavin Johnson when he introduced the veteran pair of Mabhuti Khanyeza and Nomvethe. The introduction of the two strikers proved to be a master stroke from Johnson as Nomvethe scored the equaliser and Khanyeza scored the winner in the 87th minute.

Mamelodi Sundowns had lots of possession of the ball but they failed to use it to their advantage and win the game. Maybe it is time for Mosimane to tell his players possession of the ball does not win games, goals do.
