Pam Andrews is ready for Gail October role

- Alyssia Birjalal

PAM Andrews is ready to step into the role of Gail October after a break which stretches to five years. Andrews, who admits she had “lost” herself for a bit, is looking forward to creating all sorts of drama on the prime time soap.

“In my time off I went to Europe, did some travelling. Before I left I think I had lost myself a bit. I just needed time away from fame and showbiz. I actually enjoyed being just a normal person that side, not being known,” said the star actress.

“But I am back and I love being an actress so that’s all I’m going to focus on now,” Andrews said.

In the upcoming storyline, Gail returns with her son with the hope of a new life and stability.

“It’s always been my intention to return to the Rhythm City family.

Gail is a very ballsy, brave, upfront and an in-your-face character that is unfiltered and calls it like she sees it.

“She’s still the same ambitious and hard-working woman, and unfortunately she still isn’t the best judge of character or situations, but she’s honest and has a good heart,” she added. She said she felt good stepping onto the set. “Being on set felt so familiar, almost like visiting an old neighbourhood. While most of the characters have left, the biggest one is still there, David Genaro, he is so dynamic,” said Andrews.

“He is like 4-in-1. I can’t say much about my role, what I can say is that Gail is back and she is going to stir up some serious drama,” Andrews said.

Gail was written out of the storyline in 2012 after giving birth to David’s son.

Gail worked as Miles Vilakazi’s PA at Redemption Records before David got hold of the company.

When S’bu left Redemption to start his own company, Hustle, Gail chose to go with him. It didn’t take long, however, for her to move out of S’bu’s shadow and make a career and name for herself as a DJ on 9-Nine.

In 2011, she became involved with David in a transactional relationship. David wanted a heir to inherit his empire and, in exchange, he offered her security and all the creature comforts her heart could desire.

This arrangement eventually came to an end, but in January 2012, Gail confided to Niki that she was pregnant.

Shortly after this, she became involved with Colins who, unbeknown to her, was a criminal.

She escaped his clutches and, on her way to Cape Town, delivered her baby, David’s son Quinton. Ron claimed publicly to be Quinton’s father to protect him, as he would have been an easy target for the gang intent on taking revenge on David for what happened during his prison sentence.

When the day of reckoning came, David asked Big Man to take Gail and Quinton to safety, somewhere where even he could never find them. And that’s where they remained, until now.

Andrews said while she didn’t think she had any fans left, she was pleasantly surprised by the love she received upon the reveal. “I was actually very surprised at their response. I didn’t think I had any fans left because I’ve been keeping such a low profile, but they were very happy upon the return of Gail to Rhythm City,” said Andrews. She continued: “I got very sweet messages, thanks guys.” She said she does not want to be a celebrity, but rather just enjoy her trade. “I do love being an actress but my focus is on love, joy, happiness and to do a good job raising my son,” Andrews said. Don’t miss Gail’s return on Rhythm City at 7pm on e.tv and eHD on OpenView HD (Channel 104) and DStv (Channel 194).
