CHANGES I WOULD MAKE FOR THE WALES GAME

-

Steven Kitshoff for Tendai Mtawarira We might see an injury-enforced change in the front row should Mtawarira not be available this weekend, but even if he is, a Test start for Kitshoff would be well deserved. He’s made massive contributions both at scrum time and in open play for the Boks this season, and it’ll be good to see him get a starting chance to continue doing so. Lukhanyo Am for Jesse Kriel Yes, Kriel had one of his better performances as he straightened his lines up and was solid on defence, but a Test start for Lukhanyo Am, who hasn’t been given a single second on tour - is long overdue, and he’s a player worth trying (the game against Italy would have been the perfect one to experiment in, because it’s not going to be easier against Wales). Rudy Paige for Ross Cronje Giving Paige an extended run wouldn’t be too bad an idea given the persisting Bok problems at No 9. Besides, Ross Cronje was way too predictable and slow at times against Italy. Neither Paige nor Cronje can produce the kind of play that a guy like Faf de Klerk, for example, can. But assessing both options going forward is crucial in working towards a scrumhalf solution. Franco Mostert for Lood de Jager Mostert coming in for Dr Jager in the starting line-up could be another attractive change. Although De Jager organised the lineouts well (he made quite a few mistakes, however), Mostert’s ability and work rate can also be a good addition to the Bok pack. Warrick Gelant for Andries Coetzee Warrick Gelant got a decent run at the weekend, but more exposure wouldn’t hurt. Also, I’d like to see Gelant be used at fullback, not on the wing, and although Coetzee has been mostly decent for the Springboks, giving Gelant a try in a starting berth is worth a shot. by WYNONA LOUW
