Evidence shows US is arch rogue terrorist state, not Iran

-

IRAN is regularly vilified by the West as an existential threat to the “free and democratic” world and a sponsor of international terrorism.

According to former US president George W Bush it was, with North Korea and Iraq, the “axis of evil”, with US President Donald Trump more recently claiming it to be “the number one terrorist state”.

Setting aside for the moment that the US is in fact the arch rogue terrorist state what evidence is there to support these allegations?

Firstly, one needs to consider the historical context of US/Iranian relations. In 1953 the CIA engineered the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed and supported the bloody dictatorship of the Shah Pahlavi for 25 years.

After his overthrow and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran the relationship with the US continued to deteriorate. This is not surprising considering America has always been a sore loser and then of course there is the question of all that oil going out the window.

Another bump in the road was the Iraq/Iran war. There is evidence of the US encouraging Saddam Hussein`s unprovoked attack on Iran. When Iraq eventually invaded Iran in 1980 it received economic, military and logistical aid from the US. This included chemical compounds for making poison gas, which was then used against the Iranians and later on their own Kurdish citizens. This bloody war ground to a stalemate eight years later.

Another heinous act was the US cruiser Vincennes shooting down an Iranian passenger airliner in the Persian Gulf at the close of the Iraq/Iran war. All 290 people aboard the aircraft, which included 56 children, perished.

The American presence and activity in the Persian Gulf at the time puts the lie to all the protestations of innocence for this act of international piracy. It was no tragic accident, but a crime against humanity. Considering, the cruiser’s air-warfare co-ordinator Lieutenant Commander Scott Lustig was awarded the Commendation Medal.

The US appears hell bent on war with Iran. Trump now wants to renege on the nuclear weapons agreement which Iran has in no way breached. In this vein, arch warmonger Senator John McCain will be remembered for his enthusiastic rendition of “Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” to the tune of Barbara Ann. All this from the nation of fast food and slow thinking.

It is worth mentioning the so-called terrorist state of Iran has not invaded another country in more than 200 years. Brian van der Vijver Cape Town
