M-NET has been lining up a glamorous group of celebrity contestants for its new local series, Dancing With the Stars SA (DWTS SA).

They include acting legend Frank Opperman, award-winning TV presenter Thembisa Mdoda, actress Juanita De Villiers, former Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie and Odessa Swarts, proud mom of athletics star Wayde van Niekerk.

This week the channel confirmed that actress Zola Nombona would also be waltzing her way on to the glitzy Dancing With the Stars stage next year.

“I am very excited about being on DWTS SA. I’m also really nervous because this experience will be completely out of my comfort zone but I’m willing to take on the challenge.

“I’m excited to push myself and see how I can morph into a dancer,” said Nombona.

“I have never been in any type of competition before and being part of such a spectacular show is amazing.

“I have never been afforded such an opportunity before and I’m taking this one by the horns,” she said.

Nombona, who rated herself as a fairly good social dancer, said she did not have any knowledge of ballroom dancing but she was more worried about how her body would adjust to the movement.

“What’s scary about getting into this competition is how long my body will take to get accustomed to this type of movement.

“I know I will have pains in places I have never imagined, but I’m ready for the challenge and will do my best at all times. “I know that a competition like this needs mental tenacity.

“I plan to keep a positive attitude and mindset to keep motivated,” Nombona said.

Her previous accolades include a Golden Horn award in 2016 for Best Lead Actress for her work in the movie, Ingoma.

The Eastern Cape-born actress is also known for her role as “Shado”, a streetwise teenager in the second season of South African TV drama series Intersexions in 2013.

In 2016, she landed the lead role in the popular Mzansi Magic local prison series Lockdown, which she has been part of for two seasons.

Nombona also recently starred in iNumber Number and Love Lives Here.

She said that while she was taking part in the competition to learn and have fun, winning it would be a great bonus.

“First and foremost, I want to have fun, but also want to see how I can push my mind and body through this experience.

“Winning be a great bonus. I’m ready for the challenge and will do my best at all times,” she said.

Nombona said viewers should tune in to watch her dance journey and be surprised.

“Viewers should watch Dancing With The Stars SA to watch me journey into this new experience because I believe I will surprise them as I believe I will surprise myself,” she said.

Dancing with the Stars SA, in which 12 untrained local celebrities will put their best foot forward with the help of highly skilled professional Latin and ballroom dancers, starts on M-Net channel 101 on February 4.
